Woman dead in possible accidental shooting

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Police are now trying to determine if the deadly shooting was accidental or intentional.

A woman died Tuesday morning in what police believe may have been an accidental shooting.

Police responded around 9:30 a.m. to a home in the 8000 block of McFarland Court, which is on the city’s south side.

IMPD’s homicide unit arrived within minutes, after a call was placed to dispatch on Tuesday.  The victim’s boyfriend dialed 911 and told the operator a terrible accident took place while she was moving her belongings out of the apartment they shared.  He claims she was holding his handgun that was pointed towards her chest when it accidentally went off.

Investigators brought him in for questioning but are not naming him a suspect at this time.  The victim is believed to be in her mid-30’s.  The Marion County Coroner’s Officer has not confirmed her identity.
