Most Indiana state parks raising entrance fees $2 next week

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – Visitors to Indiana’s state parks will pay $2 more per vehicle to enter most state parks under a price increase that takes effect next week.

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources said Wednesday that beginning May 13 entrance fees will increase from $5 to $7 per in-state vehicle at most state parks and three state recreation areas with gated entrances.

Entrance fees at Prophetstown State Park will rise from $5 to $8 per in-state carload.

The DNR says the price increase is in response to the parks’ rising operating costs.

User fees pay about 70 percent of state park operational costs, with the rest coming from Indiana’s General Fund.

DNR Director Cameron Clark says visiting a state park or forest is still a great value for families.
