Pre-K program gets nearly 5,000 applicants

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Officials say they have gotten nearly 5,000 qualified applications for the Indy Preschool Scholarship Program.

The program, which launched a little over a year ago, was created to provide Pre-K access to Marion County children.

To qualify families must meet the following criteria:

  • The family must have an income below 185 percent of the federal poverty level
  • The family must reside in Marion County
  • The child must be at least three, but younger than five years old by Aug. 1, 2015.

“The number of applications received demonstrates how important this program is,” said Melanie Brizzi, Director of Indiana’s Office of Early Childhood and Out of School Learning. “This will allow over 1400 low-income children in Central Indiana start school much more prepared to learn and succeed.”
