Bike helmets given away at children’s museum event

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – As the weather warms up across Indiana, many children will be riding their bicycles.

IU Health University Hospital and Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health want to make sure those kids are safe.

They hosted a bike helmet giveaway for the ninth year on Thursday at the Indianapolis Children’s Museum.

Each child was fitted for a helmet and then was allowed to decorate them.

Roughly 450,000 kids coming into the emergency room every year with bike related injuries.

Physicians wanted to come up with a way to make a difference.

Through grant provided funding, they were able to give away 1,500 free bike helmets.
