Minors arrested at softball coach’s home

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – Minors were arrested for underage drinking at the home of the Benton Central High School Softball coach.

The Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Department responded to the call Saturday night, the same day as Benton Central’s prom.

Lt. Greg Frantz said the coach, Jeff Best, was not arrested but some underage children were.

Because those arrested were minors, Frantz said he would not release the number of minors arrested. Parents said the children were released into their custody.

Benton Central Community Schools Superintendent Gregg Hoover said he is aware of the situation.

Hoover said the school corporation is looking into the incident. Best is still an employee at this time.

The case is under investigation and has been forwarded to the prosecutor’s office.
