Friends, family gather to remember shooting victim

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The friends and family of a man killed in a road rage incident gathered to remember his life Friday night.

A heated argument Sunday night on Indy’s east side lead to the fatal shooting of 41-year-old Nicholas Norris.

On Friday, prosecutors charged 24-year-old Ron Stewart with voluntary manslaughter in Norris’ death.

Norris’ friends and family now have a message they’d like to share: violence is not the answer.

At least 200 friends, family members and people from the community came together for the vigil.

They lit candles and shared stories about Norris.

They described a generous, funny, and kind man who “never knew a stranger.”

“Goofy guy, always had a smile,” his son Gage Norris said. “If you were in a bad mood, he’d always cheer you up. I don’t know how he did it, always putting smiles on people’s faces.”

Other family members spoke hoping that Norris will be remembered for all the good he did for people and for his personality, not how his life ended.
