Slain IU student’s diploma presented to family

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WISH) – Slain Indiana University student Hannah Wilson‘s family was presented with her diploma.

A private ceremony was held in the university’s Bryan Hall on the Friday of commencement weekend.

“One of the hardest things is to feel happy when you kind of feel guilty,” Jeff Wilson, Hannah’s father said. “I just keep thinking of Hannah laughing and smiling. That old saying about ‘Well, Hannah would love this’ and she would. I mean, she loved it down here. So, there’s no reason to be sad and gloomy and depressed all the time. We’ve had our moments, believe me, but we try to make the most of it.”

School officials have also said a moment of silence will be offered in Wilson’s honor during Saturday’s graduation ceremony.

Wilson, a graduate of Hamilton Southeastern High School in Fishers would have earned an undergraduate degree in psychology.

The 22-year-old’s body was found in rural Brown County April 24. Bloomington resident Daniel Messel, 49, has been charged with her murder.
