Colts load up on defensive backs in rookie camp

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The punter for the Indianapolis Cols spent his Saturday driving the Grand Prix pace car at the IMS.

While Pat McAfee enjoyed his lap around the track, rookies and first year players were on the field for day two of their three day mini camp at the team complex.

Coach Pagano said taking what the guys learned in the classroom to the field gives them a chance, and having some extra defensive backs in camp is by design.

“It’s like pass rushers. I don’t think you can have enough cover guys,” said Pagano. “Because those guys are built like Ferraris, and I hate to say it, but Ferraris are in the shop a lot, and it’s hard to find mechanics to fix the damn things. It’s good to have guys available, because if we get a guy and he gets a nick here or there, we have a guy you feel good about to put in there and play at a high level.”

The three day camp ends on Sunday.
