Community helps child after being shot
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A community came together on Saturday to raise money to help the family of a young boy who was shot in March 2015.
Tyjuan Preer, 8, was hit in the arm by a bullet while standing outside a used appliance store.
After hitting the Preer’s arm, the bullet passed through his chest before exiting his body.
Preer is still working to regain his strength and lower body movement. Doctors said he suffered from spinal shock.
The same used appliance store where the incident occurred held a block party to raise money for the Preer family. There were hamburgers, hot dogs, chips and drinks.
Store owner William Dycus said, “I just want to help his family out. It’s got to be a really hard thing right about now. Your kid can’t walk. You’ve got to help him out. You’ve got to take off of your job to help him. You’re losing money.”
Dycus said he hopes to make the block party fundraiser a monthly event for the Preer family. He also hopes other areas in the city will be inspired to have similar events in an effort to cut down on street violence.
