Good Samaritan robbed in Columbus

COLUMBUS, Ind. (WISH) – Columbus Police are investigating the armed robbery of a Good Samaritan who stopped to assist what he thought was a stranded motorist Monday afternoon.

Authorities said the victim stopped to assist a man carrying a gas can on US 31 near Lowell Road just before 2 p.m. The victim told police that he was going to take the man to a nearby gas station, however, before arriving at the gas station, the suspect produced a handgun and demanded the wallet and other property from the victim.

The suspect fled the vehicle on foot. The Good Samaritan was not hurt in the incident.

Police say the suspect is described as a black male between 20 and 30 years old, with a slender build. He was last seen wearing blue jean shorts and a red shirt.

Authorities are also looking for a newer model Chevrolet Suburban they believe may be involved in the incident. The Suburban is described as black with 22-inch chrome wheels and a temporary license plate.
