IMPD officer to be recognized as Indiana’s Top Cop

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – An Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officer is heading to Washington, D.C. to collect top honors. Fellow officers nominated Officer Greg Milburn for the Top Cops Award.

In May 2014, a suspect who killed a woman and her granddaughter shot Officer Milburn at a home on the city’s northeast side. Milburn returned fire, killing the suspect.

Tuesday night, Milburn will be honored for his bravery at a dinner in Washington, D.C. The National Association of Police Organizations has been honoring one police officer from each state every year since 1994.

The NAPO says the Top Cops Awards is to educate the American public about our nation’s heroes and pay tribute to law enforcement officers in federal, state, county and local agencies to actions above and beyond the call of duty during the preceding year.

The 22nd annual Top Cops Awards dinner will be at 6:30 p.m. at the Washington, D.C JW Marriott hotel.

Celebrities from crime-fighting TV series will be on hand to pass out the awards.
