Riley hosts Indy 500 party

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – After a long day of practice at the track, IndyCar drivers let loose Tuesday evening with special friends.

Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health threw an Indy 500 Party for its patients.

The kids had a lot of fun with some big name drivers like Simon Pagenaud, Alex Tagliani and last year’s Indy 500 winner, Ryan Hunter-Reay.

It was a thrill for the kids and a wonderful distraction for the drivers during a stressful month.

“Kids, it doesn’t matter if they’re sick, it doesn’t matter if they’re healthy. They’re always optimistic and they have a great time and especially when they get to meet some guys who drive cars pretty fast, it helps a lot,” said Hunter-Reay.

Drivers took time to take pictures with the kids and sign some autographs before their big race coming up later this month.
