Thousands of classic, collector cars cross auction block in Indy

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – You don’t have to go to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway to see cool cars this month.

About 2,000 classic and collector cars will cross the auction block this week at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. Dana Mecum’s 28th Original Spring Classic starts Tuesday and continues until Sunday, May 17.

Organizers say the show draws some 20,000 visitors to the fairgrounds, including collectors large and small from around the world. Admission is $20. For more information, click here.

Also, thousands of fans are expected to attend the annual Hoosier Hundred dirt track race this year. It started in 1953. The 100-mile auto race features the historic 1-mile dirt track at the Hoosier Lottery Grandstand. The race is set for the Thursday before race weekend, May 21. Advance tickets are $25 and $30 at the gate.

The vehicle-centered events continue all summer. In its second year at the Indiana State Fairgrounds, Goodguys 2nd Indy National event will be held June 5-7 and will take over the entire fairgrounds. This event features 2,500 custom hot rods, vintage drag racing and a demolition derby. General admission is $14 for advance purchase or $17 at the gate.

Also planned is the Indy Mile AMA Pro Flat Track Grand Nationals on July 11 and the 34th Annual O’Reilly Auto Parts 4-Wheel Jamboree Nationals September 18-20. For more information on all of these events, click here.
