$21 million renovation underway at IU’s Franklin Hall

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) – A major renovation is underway on one of the oldest buildings at Indiana University.

The (Bloomington) Herald-Times reports that carpet and walls have been torn out at Franklin Hall and construction materials are stacked throughout the building. Franklin Hall is set to become the home of the university’s new Media School in spring 2016. The renovations will cost about $21 million.

The Media School was formed when IU’s School of Journalism merged with parts of the university’s telecommunications, communications and culture departments.

Franklin Hall was built in 1907 and originally was the school library. Now it will house classrooms, studio spaces and be home to the student newspaper the Indiana Daily Student.
