Ball State students write app offering tours of state parks

MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) – Students at Ball State University have created a free smartphone app that will let visitors create their own tours of Indiana State Parks.

The new app will give visitors custom driving or walking tours of 23 state parks. It gives directions to historic sites and offers historic photos that can be compared to contemporary photos. The app is called “The Indiana State Parks History Tour.”

App users can investigate state parks on their own or they can wander through a park and receive an alert from the app when they come upon an historic site.

A Ball State history professor oversaw the project and Ball State music composition students wrote the app’s background music. Work on the app started in the summer of 2013.
