Verizon adds new technology at IMS

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Newly developed technology has been added around the Indianapolis Motor Speedway to ensure fans stay connected.

Verizon Wireless engineers worked on the extra support that is now installed around the track’s exterior for a full year. It was added to keep up with the growing need for more data in high traffic areas.

There were 12 small cell boxes, that were designed to boost data, that were attached to telephone poles and 20 new antennas added.

The upgrades come as great news for visiting spectators who want to send selfies and text messages.

An estimated 400,000 people are expected to attend events at the track during the month of May.

“Everyone could sit on their phones for two days straight and we would still have power. If commercial power goes out the generators will kick in, said Daniel Huffman with Verizon.
