Bloomington high school partners with London energy company

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WISH) – Bloomington High School South is setting an example for public schools all over the country.

Teacher Amanda Figolah told WTIU in Bloomington that the school has the first Pavegen technology in a public institution.

Pavegen describes itself as “an innovative clean tech company”.  The company’s floor tiles generate electricity whenever someone steps on them.

Figolah told WTIU this project encourages students to imagine a world with limitless sustainable energy.

The school said their system, installed in April, is the smallest being used but it still allows the high school students to explain renewable energy to grade school students.

Figolah said Pavegen, a London based company, appreciated the opportunity to place a system in Bloomington because “We are different. We are the Midwest. We are Indiana.”

Figolah said developers hope the technology can be installed at a price comparable to any other flooring and could have applications for any place people walk a lot
