IFD, Citizens team up for ‘Smoke Detector Blitz’

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The Indianapolis Fire Department is pairing with Citizens Energy Group in the second of six Smoke Detector Blitzes scheduled for this year.

Firefighters will be going door to door to make sure people have working smoke detectors. If they don’t, firefighters can install one for free.

Two-hundred smoke detectors were expected to be installed around 34th and Illinois streets on Thursday.

IFD Captain Rita Reith says it’s vital that every home have a working smoke detector.

“Certainly we would love it if every homeowner in Marion County would go out today and make sure they have a working smoke detector in their home,” Cpt. Reith said.

If you need a smoke detector, you can call the IFD Smoke Detector Hotline at 317-327-6093 and someone will help you check if you have a working smoke detector in your home.
