Police impersonators terrorize west side family

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Lee Ellis appeared surprised when 24-Hour News 8 cameras showed up to his front door. Less than 48 hours ago, a couple of gunmen knocked on his door yelling “police!”

Before Ellis could fully open the door, the suspects kicked it in, and forced Ellis to the ground at gunpoint.

This happened on the 2800 block of West 10th Street, around 4:00 a.m.

The suspects ran through the house looking for valuables and left after about 15 minutes with a flat screen television.

“My face was to the ground,” said Ellis.

Ellis only has a vague description of the suspects.

In the same week and less than five miles away, a 76-year old man had an encounter with a police impersonator. According to the police report, it happened on the 2600 block of Foltz Street. The victim called police. However, he was too shaken up for an interview.

If anyone ever knocks on your door claiming to be an officer and you have doubts, don’t hesitate to call 911. Trust your instincts, if they don’t seem to be a real police office they are probably not.

Ellis is a little nervous about what happened inside his home, so now he is looking for options on moving into another house.

“This is where I’m at until I save enough money to get out,” said Ellis.
