3 women honored at Children’s Museum

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Three women were honored for their contributions to strengthening education and advancing the interests of children Friday morning in Indianapolis.

The Association of Children’s Museums presented its 2015 Great Friend to Kids Award at the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis.

Ruby Bridges, Yvonne Simons and Jeanne White Ginder were honored Friday with the annual award.

Bridges is known for becoming the first black student to attend a formerly all-white New Orleans elementary school in 1960.

Simons is the executive director of The Anne Frank Center USA, which is a partner organization of the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam where Frank was forced into hiding during the Holocaust.

Ginder is the mother of Ryan White, who, at age 13, contracted HIV/AIDS from a tainted blood treatment. Ginder fought for her son’s right to attend school and live a normal life.

The award ceremony honoring the women took place during the closing session of the Association of Children’s Museums conference.
