Beer can on car roof leads to drug arrest

BROWN COUNTY, Ind. — A man was arrested on drug charges Wednesday after an officer spotted a vehicle with a beer can on the roof, 24-Hour News 8 partner the Brown County Democrat reports.

Deputy Jim Green Jr. was on patrol on Sweetwater Drive when he noticed a vehicle stopped on the south side of the road with its lights on.

When Green stopped to speak with the occupants, the driver, Spencer Lay, attempted to push a clear plastic container under the seat.

The officer reported that he saw a clear plastic bag with a green leafy substance and a small pipe used to smoke marijuana.

When asked if he had any other drugs, Lay reportedly said, “Yes, I have a small vial of cocaine in my center console.”

Lay was arrested and taken to the Brown County Jail where investigators confirmed the drugs were illegal.

Lay was booked on preliminary charges of possession of marijuana, possession of cocaine and possession of paraphernalia.
