Fast Friday kicks off exciting weekend at IMS

Indianapolis Ind (WISH) – Fans of all ages have something to look forward to this weekend. Friday is called “Fast Friday” for a reason.

Friday is the last full day of practice for teams before qualifications start Saturday. Gates open at 10 a.m. and teams hit the track right around noon.

On Saturday gates will open bright and early at 6 a.m. Practice laps are Saturday all morning before qualifying rounds start at 11 a.m.

Teams will finish qualifying rounds just before 6 p.m. Saturday and that’s when the Fast 9 will be known.

On Sunday gates open at 7:30 a.m., but there are some changes to goals from past years.

First Sunday morning officials will set the field from rows four through 10. Then the last row, what we used to call “Bump Day”, will be set. Then the  qualifiers for the race will be announced.

Third and most thrilling, we’ll see who is the polesitter and in the first three rows, in one 45 minute session.

Qualifying for positions 10 – 33 happens from 11 a.m. until about 1:30 p.m. Then the Fast 9 battle it out for the Pole at 2 p.m. That’s important because this scheduled events varies from tradition.

The excitement used to end at 6 p.m. on Sunday it now ends at 2:45 p.m. So you’ll want to get to the track early Sunday for the fun.
