Indy organizations receive $59K in Dollar General literacy grants

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The Dollar General Literacy Foundation awarded $59,000 in grants to Indianapolis-area schools, nonprofits and literacy organizations, the foundation announced Friday morning.

The grants are part of more than $5.8 million awarded Friday to 720 organizations across 43 states. The money is designed to fund adult, family and summer literacy programs.

Indianapolis award recipients are:

  • Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library Foundation, Inc.: $3,000
  • La Plaza, Inc. Indianapolis: $3,000
  • Metropolitan School District of Lawrence Township: $12,000
  • MSD of Warren Township: $13,000
  • YMCA of Greater Indianapolis: $3,000
  • Local Initiatives Support Corporation: $25,000

The Dollar General Literacy Foundation has distributed over $100 million in education grants since 1993.
