Purdue police identify person of interest in dorm sexual assault case

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – Purdue police say they have identified a person of interest in a sexual assault investigation.

It’s one of two assault reports investigators were checking into this week. Police aren’t releasing the person’s name, but the victim said her attacker was not a stranger.

The victim said she was assaulted in Earhart Hall on April 24, but just told police on Saturday.

Captain Eric Chin says there are things bystanders can do to prevent these assaults.

“Acts of deterrence, acts of prevention,” said Chin. “When law enforcement intervenes, it’s too late – the act has already happened. So we’re asking members of our community, for each of us to take personal responsibility.”

The second sexual assault was reported Wednesday. Police are not sure where it may have happened and are still gathering facts in that case.
