Race fans talk dangers of crash drama at track

SPEEDWAY, Ind. (WISH) – The drama of crashes and interest in car changes gave race fans plenty to talk about on Fast Friday at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Many fans were hopeful for an incident free day of practice.

“I don’t want to see wrecks. I know that ‘sells’ but not what I want to see,” said Gary Miller, who has attended practice and the Indianapolis 500 for 40 years.

Fans like Rob Botts said story lines including the introduction of new aero kits make practice entertaining without the risk of dangerous drama like crashes.

“You’ve got guys who are learning a brand new aero package, you can pretty much throw most of the notebook away as far as the previous years are concerned,” Botts said. “As a fan all you want to see is competitive, close racing.”
