President Obama plunges into Twitter

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – In 36 minutes, the first tweet from President Barack Obama was retweeted and favorited more than 68,000 times.

Six years into his time in office as president, Obama finally joined Twitter and tweeted on Monday.

Vice President Joe Biden had already been present on Twitter, as had first lady Michelle Obama. However, both of their accounts have tweets from office staff members.

Although there already was a Barack Obama Twitter handle, most of the tweets came from staff members, not Obama himself.

According to the White House, this new Twitter account will have tweets exclusively from the president. The account will be passed along to future presidents, as well.
