INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Gabby Chaves was honored on Tuesday at the Fastest Rookie Luncheon. Chaves will start in the tenth row for Sunday’s Indianapolis 500.
The Bryan Huerta driver won the Indy Lights race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway last season and told 24-Hour News 8 that experience is key.
“I think any amount of experience you can gain here at IMS will definitely help you,” said Chaves. “Especially in your first year in the Indy 500, and having won here last year, I feel confident driving in a race situation. I feel confident in making passes, and I think that’s going to help me in my first race here.”
Helio Castroneves was the last rookie to win the Indianapolis 500, doing so in 2001.
