Study: Indy ranks last in fitness among largest U.S. cities

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A new study overnight reveals Indianapolis is ranked last in fitness among the 50 largest cities in America.

The American Fitness Index compared the rates of smoking, obesity and diabetes in cities with it’s outdoor exercise option. In the full report, it said 32 percent of people in each city needed to meet the CDC’s guidelines for physical activity.

In Indianapolis, less than 20 percent of people met the target goal – which is 2.5 hours of walking per week.

Last year Indianapolis ranked 46th. Now we rank 50th.

One researcher says Indiana is at a disadvantage when compared to places like Denver, where mountains and other natural resources are more inviting options for exercise.
