Find Fitness and Fun in Northern Indiana with The 3 Dune Challenge

Indiana Dunes offer a great place for fitness minded families. Take The 3 Dune Challenge. Starting at the Nature Center at Indiana Dunes State Park in Chesterton, you can hike a specially marked 1.5 mile course, climbing Mount Jackson (elevation 176 feet), Mount Holden (184 feet) and Mount Tom (elevation 192 feet. Some parts of the trail feature 40-degree slopes, making each step that much more, challenging. Conquer The 3 Dune Challenge and then sop by the Indiana Dunes Visitor Center to buy a shirt and pick up a free commemorative sticker and postcards. Indiana Dunes State Park is home to six other trails, including Trail 9, which has been selected as one of the best hiking trails in the nation, rewards hikers with forest views followed by spectacular lake views.

Are you ready for a run or hike that will leave your legs screaming, sweat pouring down your face and your mind telling you that you should turn back?

If so, The 3 Dune Challenge is for you.

To complete The 3 Dune Challenge, a person must tackle a special 1.5-mile course at Indiana Dunes State Park, climbing Mount Jackson (elevation 176 feet), Mount Holden (184 feet), and Mount Tom (192 feet). These are the three highest dunes in all of Indiana Dunes State Park.

Some parts of the trail feature 40-degree slopes, making each step that much more challenging. In the sandy vertical climbs, it’s common to take two steps forward and slide one step back.

The real payoff for this activity is the wonderful views.”

The 3 Dune Challenge is tough, but you get great Lake Michigan views and, hey, not everybody can say they finished it.
