Flags to be flown at half-staff for Memorial Day

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Indiana Gov. Mike Pence has ordered flags at state facilities to be flown at half-staff Monday in honor of Memorial Day.

Businesses and residents are also encouraged to lower flags to honor fallen service members.

Flags should be flown at half-staff from sunrise until noon Monday, May 25.

Originally known as Decoration Day, the holiday originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971, according to History.com.
