Indiana State planning nearly 2 percent tuition increase

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) – Indiana State University officials say they don’t think the school can follow other state colleges in freezing student tuition rates.

Indiana State administrators are proposing a tuition and mandatory fee increase of nearly 2 percent for each of the next two years.

That would boost costs for a full-time undergraduate student from Indiana to $4,190 a semester for the coming school year.

Indiana and Purdue universities plan no tuition increases for in-state students at their main campuses. Increases of 1.65 percent are planned at their regional campuses.

Indiana State vice president Diann McKee tells the Tribune-Star that the IU and Purdue main campuses have many more out-of-state students, who pay higher tuition than do in-state students.

She says Indiana State’s tuition will remain much lower than IU and Purdue.
