SPEEDWAY, Ind. (WISH) — This year’s Indianapolis 500 pace car driver Jeff Gordon spoke with 24-Hour News 8 before the big event.
Gordon said he was honored to be here on such an amazing day driving the pace car. He said he has never had the chance to be at the Indy 500 and he still has to travel to a race in Charlotte on Sunday.
Jeff Gordon, who grew up in Pittsboro, will be the pace car driver for the 99th running of the Indy 500.
“I was blown away,” said Gordon to 24-Hour News 8 during a previous interview. “I was thinking, this cant be real, they must be joking, so to be standing here making that a reality is very exciting for me.”
Gordon said this is as close as he will ever get to being in the 500.
