Daly to replace Hinchcliffe in Detroit

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – WISH-TV has learned that Conor Daly will replace James Hinchcliffe this weekend at the Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix.

Daly will drive in both races for Schmidt Peterson Motorsports. The Noblesville native takes over for Hinchcliffe who is still recovering after a horrible crash during practice for the Indy 500 on May 18.

The incident caused Hinchcliffe to have surgery to his upper left thigh and pelvic area. Hinchcliffe has been ruled out of IndyCar Series competition for the foreseeable future.

Sources tell WISH-TV no driver decision has been made beyond this weekend in Detroit.

Daly finished last in Sunday’s Indy 500 due to an overheated exhaust system that caused a fire in his car before the race even started.
