Man will spend 25 years in prison for beating veteran

NOBLESVILLE, Ind. (WISH) – The man who was part of a violent Arcadia home invasion that left a World War II veteran injured was sentenced on Wednesday.

Joseph Lowe, 27, was sentenced to one count of burglary, which is a level two felony. He was sentenced to 30 years in the Department of Corrections, and 25 of those years will be served.

Of those 25 years, 20 will be served in the Department of Corrections, three in work release and two years will be spent on home detention. He has had five years of his sentence suspended.

Lowe will then serve three years on probation. If he violates his probation, the five years that were suspended will be activated and he will be placed back in prison.

The other man accused in the case, Justin Lawson, 27, has a sentencing hearing on June 19.

Herschel “Bud” Moore, 94, told police that he was asleep in his bed when two masked men broke into his room, tied him up with zip ties, beat him and then stole $2,500 in cash and other valuable possessions.Joseph Michael Lowe was sentenced on Wednesday. “I didn’t ask for it. I was asleep in the bed. Had I asked for it maybe I would have been ready for it and maybe it wouldn’t have happened. I don’t know,” said Moore.

Lowe is from Indianapolis, and Lawson is from Cicero.

Moore is the oldest known living WWII vet in Hamilton County. He was shot in both knees during the war in France and taken POW for nine months.

“I got banged up a little bit in WWII, I’ve recovered from that. I guess it takes more than a war to keep a good man down,” said Moore.
