14-year-old graduating from high school with honors

SPRINGBORO, Ohio (AP) – A 14-year-old Ohio student will graduate from her high school with honors.

Emma Morris will graduate from Springboro High School next month, the youngest graduate in school history, according to the Dayton Daily News.

Morris has a 4.0 GPA – ranking her 20th in her class of 423 students. She skipped three grades and scored a perfect 36 on the math portion of the ACT.

“She is a very motivated learner,” said Principal Kyle Martin.

Her parents say they knew she was gifted at a very early age when she excelled in kindergarten and passed algebra when she was a 9-year-old.

“We decided we’d rather see her get B’s and be challenged than skate through, get A’s, and get bored,” Andrew Morris said.

She never received lower than an A-minus.

Morris plans on attending Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Indiana and will leave for college in July.

But she does not seem any more nervous about what lies ahead than the average high school senior.

“When people first get to know me, they’re kind of weird – they talk to me a little differently,” she said. “I think it will be easier at college. When I (visited campus), no one asked me how old I was. I got a few comments like ‘you’re really short,’ but there are other short people there, too.”
