American Heart Association stresses importance of CPR

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — This week is National CPR and AED awareness week.

Officials say it only takes one minute to learn how to save a life. Tim Harms with the American Heart Association stopped by 24-Hour News 8 to talk about Hands-Only CPR.

According to the American Heart Association website, most people who die of cardiac arrest don’t get immediate CPR from a person on the scene. If you are a bystander don’t be afraid to help.

If you see someone collapsed call 911 and push hard and fast in the center of the chest. The website said push hard and fast to the classic disco song “Stayin’ Alive” because it has the right beat for Hands-Only CPR.

The National Heart Association also put together a few memes for the week.
