Man killed, woman hurt in crash on I-465 Monday

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – An Indianapolis man died after a crash on Interstate 465 Monday evening, Indiana State Police officials said.

According to police, shortly before 6:30 p.m. troopers were dispatched to I-465 westbound at the .06 mile marker on the report of a single vehicle crash with injury.

Preliminary, police say a 2007 Chevrolet Impala driven by 62-year-old John Ferguson was westbound on I-465 when for an unknown reason the vehicle left the road and hit the inside of a concrete median wall.

Emergency crews found Ferguson unresponsive when they arrived. Police say he and a female passenger were transported to IU Health Methodist Hospital where Ferguson was pronounced dead. The woman in the vehicle was treated for non life threatening injuries. Police say she has no recollection of the crash.

No witnesses have stepped forward to possibly explain why Ferguson suddenly left the road, hitting the wall. Officials say they will investigate if Ferguson suffered a possible medication condition.

Anyone with information regarding this crash is asked to contact Trooper Ronneal Williams at the Indianapolis State Police Post at 317-899-8577.
