11 Indiana preservation projects share $830K in funding

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – Eleven historic preservation projects around Indiana, including an ambitious, 900-acre archaeological survey, are sharing in more than $800,000 in new funding.

The Department of Natural Resources says the National Park Service has provided more than $363,000 in grants that will be matched by about $465,000 in local and private funds.

That combined $830,000 will include a $50,000 grant to Ball State University’s anthropology department for an archaeological survey on 900 acres in northern Indiana’s Benton County. That expanse includes at least three historic dwelling sites.

One of the 10 other projects will provide the Daviess County Commissioners with $50,000 to stabilize and renovate the stained glass skylight in the southern Indiana county’s neoclassical revival-style courthouse. That building was erected in 1928 in the city of Washington.
