IPS announces 2015 Teacher of the Year

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Indianapolis Public Schools has named its Teacher of the Year.

Amy Wackerly teaches 3rd grade at Center for Inquiry School 2. IPS officials say her commitment to lifelong learning and service to students and the community are why she’s being recognized.

Wackerly was CFI 2’s Teacher of the Year in 2002. She’s been with the school for 15 years and was selected to represent CFI 2 and IPS at the 2013 Elementary Education International Conference in China.

IPS officials say this year a former student, now in high school, wrote Wackerly to say she was the teacher who made a difference in her life. She said she struggled in elementary school, but is now taking honors courses and receiving high grades.

Wackerly was surprised with the award Friday morning at a school ceremony.
