Couple climbing to kick cancer

A couple of world travelers are hoping to kick cancer to the “side of the mountain!”

Ann and John Cinnamon are Indianapolis broadcast veterans with 30 years of on-air experience each in both radio and TV, but have also visited all 50 states, more than 80 countries and all 7 continents. Now, they’re attempting to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro to help give back to patients who are fighting cancer.

The Cinnamons say they’re into experiential travel and have taken part in such events as Carnival in Rio, Running of the Bulls in Pamplona, Oktoberfest in Munich, Mardi Gras in New Orleans and New Year’s Eve in Time Square. They’ve also done fundraisers in the past as part of their travels. For example, when they visited Kenya, they did an on-air fundraiser and took money, clothing and medical supplies to an orphanage in Nairobi.

Another time, they had a well built for several impoverished families in Cambodia. So, when the couple decided to climb Kilimanjaro, they thought it might make a nice fundraiser and decided to benefit a local organization.

They say Indy Eleven immediately stepped up and got involved as did the Community Health Network Foundation, for which they are raising money. The Cinnamons are asking people to donate $1 for every 1000 feet they climb. The Kilimanjaro summit is at over 19,000 feet, so they’re asking for a $19 donation, of which every dollar will go to CHNw’s Oncology Patient Assistance Program to help cancer patients. The climb is the most ambitious of the experiential travel that they’re participated in so far!
