WESTFIELD, Ind. (WISH) – Residents had the chance to honor fallen officers on Tuesday by donating blood.

The Indiana Fallen Officer Blood Drive was founded by Janice Starnes in Morgan County and was originally a memorial to her husband that was killed while on the job in 2001.

Since 2007, it has been a statewide event.

The Westfield Police Department chose to recognize Deputy Marshall David Brown in their event.

Brown was killed responding to a call of a suspicious person at Westfield High School in 1969.
