Longtime federal magistrate judge in Indiana set to retire

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – A federal magistrate judge who works in several Indiana courts plans to retire after more than 25 years on the bench.

The U.S. District Court for Southern Indiana says Magistrate Judge William Hussmann Jr. will retire effective at the end of next January. Hussmann was first appointed to the position in 1988 and presides over preliminary criminal proceedings and a wide range of civil cases at the federal courts in Evansville, Terre Haute and New Albany.

Hussmann is a native of Evansville and received his law degree from Valparaiso University. He was an Indiana deputy attorney general, a staff attorney for the Indiana Supreme Court Disciplinary Commission and in private practice before his federal appointment.

The U.S. District Court judges will select a replacement for Hussmann.
