Paralyzed dachshund relishes life with new adoptive owners

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – Smiley, the paralyzed dachshund who had been found abandoned next to a dumpster earlier this year, seems to be relishing life with her new adoptive owners.

The tiny dog was discovered in Donelson, Tennessee on a bitter cold January day when the temperature had dropped into the single-digits.

The pint-sized dog now has her own fan page on Facebook called “Smiley’s Space.”

In early June, Smiley was pictured on her page graduating from obedience school, while wearing a miniature mortar board.

The Facebook page also shows Smiley doing physical therapy in a pool to help strengthen her legs.

Her page has more than 700 likes.

Happy Tales Humane, the animal shelter which rehabilitated Smiley after she was rescued, said her new owners have experience with disabled dogs.

Happy Tales said Smiley’s new home has ramps to accommodate her cart, which is similar to a wheelchair for the tiny dog.
