Trey Lyles works out for Pacers

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — It’s been a wild 15 months for local basketball star Trey Lyles.

He’s won a historic state championship for Arsenal Tech, earned a trip to the Final Four in his hometown with the Kentucky Wildcats, and on Thursday, spent the afternoon working out for his hometown NBA team: the Indiana Pacers.

“It’s been a whirlwind,” said Lyles. “Being someplace where you watched a lot of games growing up and going out and working out for that team is something special for me.”

The Pacers workout marked Lyles’ third with NBA teams ahead of this month’s draft; he’s also worked out for Phoenix and Miami. He said as far as the Pacers go, they envision him as a backup stretch power forward.

“They like my game,” said Lyles.  “Just continue to work hard, and hopefully, if the chips fall where they are, I might end up here.”

And while he would love to be home, he’s eager to play anywhere in the NBA.

“I’ve played a lot of different places,” said Lyles. “Being able to play at home would be good for my family and stuff, but it really doesn’t matter to me.”
