Indiana State University approves almost 2 percent tuition hike

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) – Trustees have approved a nearly 2 percent tuition and mandatory fees increase for the next two years at Indiana State University.

The new rates affect full-time, in-state undergraduate students, bringing tuition from $8,416 to $8,746 for the 2016-17 academic year.

ISU President Dan Bradley says the increase is the minimum amount needed to be able to offer a good education in the face of state funding reductions.

The (Terre Haute) Tribune-Star reports that the 1.95 percent increase will fund university priorities, including student success initiatives, and help cover the costs of health insurance, utilities and facility maintenance.

The Commission for Higher Education recommended that the school enforce a 1.65 increase in tuition and mandatory fees.

Indiana State University faces a $1.4 million reduction in state appropriations over the next two years.
