Former nursing home employee faces forgery, fraud charges

GREENSBURG, Ind. (AP) – A former employee at a southeastern Indiana nursing home faces charges alleging that she bilked the home’s elderly residents out of nearly $10,000 in Medicare funds.

Thirty-six-year-old Amy Haley was recently charged with two counts each of forgery and fraud on a financial institution and one count of theft.

The Greensburg Daily News reports that authorities allege the Indianapolis woman forged the signatures of residents and the administrator of the Hickory Creek nursing home on more than 30 occasions in 2014.

She allegedly forged checks to remove $9,700 from Hickory Creek’s resident trust account, into which residents’ Medicare checks were deposited.

Hickory Creek officials notified police in December that they were conducting an internal investigation and audit and had placed Haley on suspension. Reports indicate she was later fired.
