Man apprehended after stealing ambulance

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A man was pursued by police through Indianapolis on Saturday morning after stealing an ambulance.

According to police, they responded to a robbery call on the west side of Indianapolis, near West Michigan Street and Belmont Avenue.

The robbery suspect, Kenneth Pope, 46, Indianapolis, was acting erratic and EMS was called to the scene to evaluate his medical status.

When the driver of the ambulance left the driver’s seat to check on Pope, Pope proceeded to move to the front of the ambulance and abscond with the vehicle.

The pursuit ended on the west side of the city, near North Lynhurst Drive in a Waffle House parking lot.

Police said that Pope was combative and tried to bite officers as he was being arrested.

Pope was transported to Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital.
