Lauren Hill honored at Indiana Fever game

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The Indiana Fever took on the Chicago Sky at Bankers Life Fieldhouse Sunday, but both teams were also working together to raise money in honor of 19-year-old Lauren Hill.

Hill died in April from brain cancer. She played basketball as a student at Mount Saint Joseph University in Cincinnati.

The Fever made Hill an honorary team member and her jersey was placed one of the Fever seats.

Players tried to make as many layups as they could.

Each layup was worth a $300 donation to The Cure Starts Now, a cancer charity Hill worked with.

Hill’s parents say they’re honored the team is continuing to push for a cause that Lauren was very passionate about.

“Essentially, she left us the mission,” Lisa Hill said. “She handed it off and we’re now her voice. Everybody. Even all of you are her voice to keep pushing the mission forward in helping, that all of these families hopefully won’t have to go through what we sat and watched Lauren go through.”

Basketball fans were able to shoot a few layups for a donation. Fans were also able to bid on items up for auction.
