Flooding prompts evacuation of Zanesville mobile home park

Zanesville, Ind. (WANE) – Dozens of people were evacuated from a mobile home park south of Zanesville Tuesday morning.

The Southwest Fire District and the Ossian Fire Department were called in after water started rising at Stoney Creek Estates around 1 a.m. Emergency crews used three boats to evacuate 38 people and eight pets.

The entire evacuation took about an hour and a half. Four ambulances and a van then took people to a shelter at Zanesville United Methodist Church.

Residents in four homes decided to stay in the flooded area. Emergency crews continued to check on them throughout the night.

Transformers in the mobile home park were also submerged in water, so utility workers had to shut off power.

Eightmile Creek runs directly north of the homes.

“Being directly next to the trailer park, typically, if we get any large amount of rains, we’ll be out here evacuating,” said Southwest Fire Chief Don Patnoude.

This isn’t the first time Stoney Creek Estates has had flood evacuations. In April 2013, crews rescued 60 people from the park.

It’s unclear when residents will be allowed back into their homes this time around.
