Teen paralyzed after shooting over cell phone, video games

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – IMPD released new clues connected to a shooting that happened on June 3.

The incident left the victim, Dionte Kluth, 18, in critical condition.

Doctors said if the teenager survives he will likely be paralyzed from the neck down.

Investigators now believe they know who pulled the trigger, a man given the street nickname of ‘Blue Steel,’ and they are now trying to find out his real name.

“Detectives left cards on all of the doors. They also went around talking to everyone in the building. I saw them approached the manager to get the video tape,” said neighbor, Kevin Williams.

IMPD requested the surveillance footage from the company that manages the apartment building. They watched eight hours of tape, frame by frame.

It revealed the man, that IMPD is calling their prime suspect, leaving around the same time gunshots were heard.

The video was also reviewed by Kluth. He communicated police ‘Blue Steel’ knocked on his door trying to sell cell phones.

When the victim went to charge a phone to see if it worked, investigators believe the suspect opened fire and ransacked Kluth’s apartment taking video games and a bag to carry them in.

Investigators don’t think this is the first time ‘Blue Steel’ has targeted the area. He’s been spotted often near West 29th Street and North Kenwood Avenue apartments.

Community members who live in the building said they are scared he may strike again. They hope someone comes forward to help properly identify him.

Reward money is available to anyone who can help identify ‘Blue Steel’. All tipsters can remain anonymous by calling the Crime Stoppers Hotline at 317-262-TIPS.
